MOLYNEUX RESCUE
RECOGNITION OF ACTION HUMANE SOCIETY’S INTEREST The rescue of the eight-year-old, Glennis Cleghorn, from the Molyneux River near Coal Creek by two employees of the Public Works Department has not been overlooked by the Royal Humane Society. The child was helping to rescue her three younger brothers when she was swept away and carried down the river for two miles before being rescued by Messrs W. Blyth and W. Kerr. The Otago representative of the Royal Humane Society, Mr H. H. Henderson, told the Daily Times yesterday that he had already taken the necessary preliminary steps to have the bravery of the two men recognised. It was possible, too, that the girl’s action in helping to save her brothers might also, be recognised by the society. The procedure in such a case as this, Mr Henderson said, was that a declaration had to be made before a justice of the peace by two persons who had witnessed the rescue or could give accurate particulars of it. This declaration would be sent to the headquarters of the society in Christchurch, which would decide what awards should be made. The initial part of this procedure, Mr Henderson said, was now being carried out.
