LONDON’S NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 1. London had its gayest New Year celebrations since 1938. Huge crowds assembled in Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square and elsewhere in the West End. Many impromptu dances were held in the roadway to the accompaniment of barrel organs and mobile pianos. Thousands of Scots assembled outside St. Paul’s and greeted the New Year with traditional Hogmanay songs.
