ARTILLERY TRAINED ON HANOI LONDON, iSec. 30. French headquarters in Saigon report that 150 European civilians have been killed in the city and as many more disappeared since the outbreak of hostilities with the Viet Nam forces; Viet Nam artillery, spotters found a range on the centre of Hanoi and hammered the heart of the city. French troops ‘ have retaken Hanoi's administration offices, and have also made some progress in restoring electric and water supplies. Viet Nam resistance stiffened at Nam Dinh, where heavy fighting is reported to be continuing. -The Viet Nam reinforced their positions near Hue and Tourane. The French High Commissioner, Admiral D’Arganlieu, has begun to investigate the situation at Hanoi, where he arrived yesterday, reports the French News Agency. The French Minister for the Colonies, M. Moutet, after conferring with the King of Cambodia, which is outside Viet Nam, said that France was dedicated to the restoration of order wherever the French flag flew. France would never abandon her friends. General le Clerc told Dr le van Hoach, provisional President of Coachin-China, also outside Viet Nam, that “France has the means to reestablish order. More French troops will soon help you.”
