DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIPS PLAY AT f , CORSTORPHINE The Dunedin Amateur Golf Championships, which were commenced on the St. Clair Golf Club’s course at Corstorphine on Tuesday, when the qualifying rounds for the senior and junior championships were played, was continued yesterday, the first and second rounds of match play in the two championships being decided. The heavy rain which fell during the afternoon on Tuesday caused many competitors to abandon their rounds, among them being A. Gibbs, who was regarded as being a certainty to win the senior title. Only 10 competitors in the junior class completed both qualifying rounds. The Alex Sime Cup for the best gross aggregate in the qualifying rounds was won by G. C. McKay, who returned a score of 79, 77—156, while the best net scores were produced by R. B. Dick, with 85—15—70 in the morning round, and J. F. Dorman, with 87—16—71 in the afternoon round. A single bogey match played yesterday morning was won by A. Gibbs, who did the round in 72 to be all square, the runners-up being G. H. Burgess and H. G. Wooding, who were each 1 down. A four-ball Stableford bogey handicap was played yesterday afternoon and resulted in a tie between D. Wilson and N. Allen, 45—16—61, and S. C. Gourley and E. B. Macdonald 45—. 15 —6 i, the former pair being declared the winners on the count back. Most of the matches in the first round 'of match play in the senior championship were won fairly comfortably, but in the second round, which like the morning round, was played in a strong south-west breeze, McKay was eliminated by S. F. Lambert’ on the last green after a dour struggle, and A. Sime beat H. S. Rcss after having gained a handy lead on the outward journey. P. A. Joblin beat E. Doogue on the seventeenth green, and J. E. Matheson. the former St. Clair player who travelled from Pahiatua to take part in the tournament, beat B. Forrest fairly easily 4 and 2. Lambert and Sime and Joblin and Matheson will contest the semi-finals this morning, and the winners will meet in the final in the afternoon. There were several byes in the first round of the junior championship, and only two games were played in the morning, H. Brown and A. R. Timms winning their games comfortably. They were also successful in the second round in the afternoon, while the other semi-finalists will be R. B. Dick, and G. W. Simpson. Dick and Brown, and Simms and Simpson will meet this morning. First Round McKay beat Hitchon 3 and 2, Lambert beat Nichol 4 and 3, Ross beat Johnston 5 and 4, Sime beat Gourley 3 and 2, Doogue beat Byers 3 and 1, Joblin beat Woods 1 up, Matheson beat Vernon 1 up, Forrest beat Macdonald 4 and 3. Second Round Lambert beat McKay 1 up, Sime beat Ross 2 and 1, Joblin beat Doogue 2 and 1, Matheson beat Forrest 4 and 2. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

First Round. Brown beat Riddell 5 and 4, Timms beat Shepherd 5 and 4. Second Round Dick beat Dorman 5 and 3, Brown beat Ward 2 up, Timms beat Sims 1 up at the nineteenth, Simpson beat Hutton 1 up.
