RUSSIAN AGGRESSION
Sir,—Assuming that " Disgusted's ’ contention that the Soviet State is foundeci an atheism is correct, F have yet to be convinced that there are more materialistic: atheists in Russia than any other country. During the war cables informed us that church attendances were on the increase in Soviet Russia, but, as this was a natural reaction applicable to all peoples, including Christian Democrats, it was no proof that regard for Christian principles or spiritual values was increasing in Russia or anywhere else. As far as I am concerned the words " Christian Democrat ” or "materialistic atheist ” are merely man-made labels and prove absolutely nothing and, taking into consideration what happened at Bikini, I for one cannot concede the democracies the right to point the finger of scorn at Russia. It seems to me we arc all whistling in the dark and all of us—whether black, white, or brindle—have a lot to learn and practice. Perhaps it would not prove amiss if everybody used telescopes the wrong way; neither the other fellow's misdeeds nor our own self-righteousness would loom so large, thus benefiting everybody.—l am, etc., A. Caldwell.
