MAN’S RESURGENCE
SUPERIORITY TO ATOM BOMB NEED FOR FAITH AND NERVE (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. “ The development of the atom bomb has not done away with the need for armies, navies or air forces, nor is it likely to do so in the future,” said Field-marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery in a speech at the Boys’ Club. “ Man, under God, in the past has risen superior to evil. He can, under God, rise superior to the atom bomb—if we keep our faith and nerve,” Sir Bernard Montgomery, speaking later at the annual meeting of the Royal Eye Hospital, revealed that St. Dunstan’s in its branches throughout the Empire in the last war received only 1000 blind men for treatment, compared with 2000 in 1916 alone. At the end of the war, there remained only 500 men totalley blind, compared with 1500 blinded in the 1914-18 war. Sir Bernard said, “ From press reports one might think that the only prospect is another dreadful war. I personally do not believe it. I think the future is bright.”
