ENTERING THE GOVERNMENT FIVE NOMINEES ANNOUNCED NEW DELHI, Oct. 15. It is., officially announced that the Moslem League has definitely decided to enter the Interim Government and has sent the names of five nominees to the Viceroy. They are Liaquat Alikha, general secretary of the Moslem League, J. J. Chundrigar, president of the Bombay Provincial Moslem League, Abdul Rab Nish tar, former finance member of the Council of Ministers of the North-west Frontier Province, Chazanfar Ali Khan, and Jogendranath Mondal, of the Federation of Scheduled Castes. It was officially announced later that his Majesty had been pleased to appoint the above as members of the Interim Government. It is • expected that the Interim Government will be reshuffled early next week. Lord Wavell has asked all resigning members to stay on.
APPEAL FOR CLEAN FIGHT
NEW DELHI, Oct. 15. Mr Gandhi, at a prayer meeting, said he hoped the Moslem League was coming into the Government to work as brothers. If they did all would be well “ I appeal to the Moslem League, even if it wants to fight for Pakistan, to fight cleanly and treat the Hindus as blood brothers, not as enemies, otherwise independence cannot be attained,” he said.
UNPALATABLE NOMINATION
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. The great surprise in the Moslem League’s list of nominees is the inclusion of Jogendranath Mondal provincial president of the All India Scheduled Castes’ Federation, which opposes Congress, says the New Delhi correspondent of The Times. Mondal s inclusion will certainly be unpalatable to Congress, and will probably give rise to much bitterness. Three members of the present Government, including Sarat Chandra Bose, have resigned to facilitate the re-forming of the Cabinet.
NEW CONGRESS PRESIDENT
(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW DELHI, Oct. 15. Dr Azad having announced that he will not be standing, the only other candidate, Acharya Ipalani, becomes the new president of the Indian National Congress. The vacancy was caused by Mr Nehru’s resignation after assuming the vice-presidency of the Interim Government. Ipalani was one of the early passive resisters, and he was among the members of Congress imprisoned under the Defence of India rules in August, 1942. He was released in June, 1945. Ipalani is an ex-profes-sor of politics at Benares Hindu University.
