Mr Dowl Foord, B.Sc., A.0.5.M., sailed by the Monterey from Auckland on Monday to take up an appointment with the Mines Department of the colonial service in Nigeria. Mr A. J. Carson, of Dunedin, formerly an intelligence officer in the R.N.Z.AF.. and Mrs Carson, a member of the American Nursing Division, who were recently married in Chicago, will arrive from the north this afternoon. They intend taking up residence in Dunedin. Among air force officers to whom theKing has granted permission for the wearing of the Croix de Guerre, awarded bv the President of France in recognition of valuable services during the war, are Flying Officer A. M. Millar, of Oamaru. and Flying .Officer Ft. C. McMillan, of Dunedin At the monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board yesterday Mr C. Martin, who has been a member of the board’s clerical staff for some years, and who has been appointed secretary of the Otago High Schools Board, was presented with a travelling bag by the staff. The presentation was made by the secretary (Mr G. W. Carrington), who paid a tribute to Mr Martin’s abilities. Other speakers were the chairman (Mr James Wallace), the chief inspector (Mr R. W. Maxwell), and Mr D. C. Cameron. Passengers who left by air for the north yesterday were Mr J. H. Living and Mr T. C. Ross for Christchurch, Miss R. W White. Mrs R. Stagg. Mr J. Hainsworth, and Mrs P. Lowe for Wellington, Mrs E. McLachlan for Napier, Mr D. J. Smith for Palmerston North, Dr E. D’Ath, Dr J. B. Dawson, Mr J. G. Johnston, and Miss J. Macpherson for Auckland. Those who arrived from the north were Mrs J. Broad, Mrs Simpson, Mr T. McNab, Mr R E. Pack, Mr E. C. Falconer, Mrs H Kofoed, Mr and Mrs T. Anderson, Mr W. B. Davies. Mr and Mrs F. J. King. Passengers for the south were Mr and Mrs F. Hawes, Mr R. Campbell, Mr A. E Mitchell, Mr F. Hitchens. Dr V. Armstrong, Mr R. T. Murphy, Mr R. R. Crompton, Mr G. Haskett. Mr W. E. Moore, and Mr J- Campbell.
