BREAK IN WEATHER

AN ADVERSE EFFECT The recent break in the weather has corne a month too soon for farmers on the Taieri Plains. A stock agent who has been in constant touch with the situation there told a Daily Times reporter yesterday that the rain had come between the end of the winter feed and the growth of the new feed, which was temporarily stopped by the cold, wet weather. This has had an effect on the sales of store cattle at the Burnside market. 'though ploughing on the Taieri was well advanced before the rain started, this extra time will be lost if the weather continued as at present, as sowing would be commenced next month The farmers would be no better off if conditions did not improve, he added, than if they had waited for the spring to plough as in other years. Had the rain held off for a month, conditions would have been excellent for the new season.
