WALTZING COMPETITIONS Considerable Interest is being taken throughout Central Otago in the waltzing competition organised by the Alexandra Pipe Band in aid of its uniform fund. At Clyde, the winners were Mr and Mrs Cashion and Mr Fountain and Miss Vercoe; at Ophir, Mr and Mrs McEwan and Mr Hamilton and Miss McKnight; at Arrowtown, Mr Talbot and MiS3 Mclntyre and Mr Ritchie and Mrs Summers; at Cromwell, Mr Scheib and Mifs Scoles and Mr and Mrs J. Robertson; and at Alexandra, Mr and Mrs E Hickey and Mr and Mrs A. Robertson. Further contests are to be held at Wanaka and Bannockburn, after which the semi-finals will be held at Cromwell and the finals at Alexandra on September 26. The music throughout has been supplied by McNamara's Band and Mr A. W Robertson is the M.C. YOUNG HELPERS' LEAGUE At the annual opening of boxes for Dr Barnado’s Homes at the Alexandra District High School it was found that the sum of £l4 Is 6d had been collected. A donation of £1 made the year’s effort £ls Is 6d. THE WEATHER The weather has shown a decided improvement after a stormy period for two or three days. There is now a good coating of snow on the mountains, so that the power and water supply for the summer should be assured. PERSONAL The Rev Mr Cardno and Mrs Cardno, of Kaitangata, are visiting Alexandra. Mr and Mrs John McKenzie, of Oamaru, are on a visit to Alexandra. Mr A. V. Dawson, Government auditor, is at present carrying out an audit of local body books in the district.
