LAWN TENNIS

NORTH-EAST VALLEY CLUB

The annual meeting of the North East Valley Lawn Tennis Club was held in the pavilion on Tuesday night. Mr L. R. Facer presided over a good attendance of members. Mr D. S. Munro, speaking to the report and balance sheet, congratulated the committee on its work during the season, and thanked those members who had kept the club functioning through the war years. Mr F Knox thanked the committee for giving free membership to returned servicemen On the motion of the chairman, the report and the balance sheet, which showed a satisfactory financial position, were adopted. The following office-bearers were elected;—Patron, Mr J. Rhodes; president, Mr C. Hutchison; Immediate past president, Mr L. R. Facer; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Harneiss and K. Munro; club captain, Mr V. Harvey; secretary, Mrs J Sime; treasurer, Mr F. Knox; auditor. Mr D. S. Munro; committee —Messrs R. Finlayson and D. Hutcheson and Misses P. Beard and E Lungley; delegates to the Otago Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs K Munro and E. Stanton. The opening date was fixed for September 28. It was decided to give free membership for the season to returned servicemen who had not already had a free season Several new members were admitted.

MUSSELBURGH PRESBYTERIAN CLUB

At the annual meeting of the Musselburgh Presbyterian Tennis Club held on Monday night the club captain, Mr N Campbell, presided over an attendance of 27 members. Reference was made to the death of the secretary. Mrs D. Stephen, and a minute of appreciation of the outstanding services rendered by her to the club was passed while the members stood In silence. _ , . Opening day was fixed for October 5, while a Yankee tournament is to be arranged for all present and intending members for the following two Saturdays. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Rev. S. D. Baird; vice-presidents—Messrs R. Mitchell, J. Anderson, D. Stephen, F. Cowan, a»d J Hunter; club captain, Mr J. Murray; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. M. Caddie; committee —Messrs T. Cowan, J. Ramsay, D Walton B. Gosney and Misses A. Luke, A. Holdaway, A. Stephen and R. Duncan; hon. auditor, Mr L Penrose.
