Mr J. L. Johnston returned from Wellington yesterday afternoon.

Mr J. R. Hampton, Crown representative on the Otago:Land Sales Committee, is at present in hospital, Messrs A. Campbell, M. Connelly and T. O'Byrne, M.L.G.’s, and Messrs J. A. Roy, G. R. Herron, T. L. Macdonald and A. Hamilton, M.P.’s, were passengers by the express yesterday on their way to Wellington. . . Mr W. B. Richards, president of the Otago Trades Council, left by the express yesterday morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the National Council of the Federation of Labour.

Cr Ireland has been appointed the representative of the Dunedin City Council and borough councils of the region on the executive of the Otago Regional Planning Council.

Mr R. J. Laurenson, who has been commodore of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club for the- past two years and a-half, and will be leaving to take up a position in Wellington at the end of the week, was met by a representative gathering of club . members at the Boat Harbour during the week-end and presented with a handsome ornamental yacht as a memento of the. esteem in which he is held by Otago yachtsmen. • The presentation was made by the vice-com-modore, Mr A. Knewstubb, who spoke of the club’s indebtedness to the departing commodore for his' untiring ana enthusiastic work on behalf of the club and the sport of boating generally, and wished him success and happiness, and pleasant sailing, in Wellington. Messrs S. F. Knight, A. Templeton, R. Kay,. J. Fenton and Dr Strain'also extended best wishes to Mr Laurenson, who said he had spent several very happy years with the club and would watch Its progress with interest.

Passengers who left by air for the north yesterday were Mrs E. C. Rule and Mr W. R. Sellar for Christchurch, Mr J. Begg. Dr and Mrs E. F. D’Ath, Mr W McEwan, Mr W. K. Ross, Mr J. Claybourne, Mrs F. Hogg, Miss A. Hogg, Mrs F. C. West. Mr J. C. Miller, Mr H. B. Maunsell, Miss A. Watson and Mrs C E. Hercus. Those who arrived from the north were Mrs I Hall, Mr and Mrs Laurie and Mr N. Meaney from Auckland, Dr T. A. Macgibbon from Palmerston North, Mrs Crane Miss P. M. Hogg, Mrs T. Reid, Father J. Fenton, Dr F. G. Hall, Mr Johnston, Mr H. C. South and Mr N. E: Suckling from Wellington, Miss G. Kane, Mrs K. Arklnson and Mr D. Morley from Christchurch. Passengers for the south were Mr E. Johnston, Mr H. Sinclair, Mr W. R. Macalister, Mr J. Ryan, Mr R. J. Gilmour. Mr G. Fernie. Mr H. South, Mrs K. Atkinson and Mr K. Hillis.
