AWAMOA BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING Mr J. Gerrie (president) was in the chair at the annual meeting of the Awamoa Bowling Club on Thursday night. There were 38 members present. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Messrs W. Henderson and D. Innes who died during the year. The chairman stated that the membership of the club stood at 60, showing a slight decline on previous years, but the finances were in a much healthier condition than for some years, the balance being £52 19s 9d. With only 28 debentures to clear, the finances should show an appreciable balance in the future The assets exceeded the liabilities by £354 19s 9d. The billiards table, purchased last May, had proved a popular acquisition during the winter months. The marked improvement in the condition of the greens was appreciated, the weed showing signs of being permanently established. Mr Gerrie expressed appreciation of the assistance given by the ladies’ club, and he also acknowledged the services given by Mr T. Kennedy in organising the euchre tournaments. The following office-bearers were elected Patron, Mr R. K. Ireland: president, the Rev. W. G. Hannah; immediate past president, Mr J. Gefrie; senior vice-pre-sident, Mr C. Brown; junior vice-presi-dent, Mr H. Hay; secretary, Mr J. Campbell; auditor, Mr W. J. Davies; treasurer, Mr R Meikle; selector and game supervisor, Mr P. A. Hunter; refreshments convener, Mr T. Kennedy; club coach, Mr G. Brooker; delegates to the North Otago centre, the Rev. Mr Hannah and Mr C. Brown; committee—Messrs A. Bartley, J. Swyth, D. McCurrle. F. Cropp,' and W. Rusbatch; billiards committee—Messrs J. Henderson, D. McCurrie, H. Geddes, and W. Rusbatch. Messrs R. Jenkins and J. Tisdall were elected honorary life members of the club. General Appreciation was recorded of the services given by the retiring treasurer. Mr R. Jenkins, who had carried out the duties of that office for 12 years, and those of secretary for two years. The secretary’s honorarium was fixed at £7 7s, the same as last year. A vote of thanks was passed to the North Otago Centre for its grant of £9 10s 6d. Approval was expressed at the manner in which the centre had assisted the country clubs. Opportunity was taken by Mr Gerrie to present a fountain pen to Mr L. T. McNatty, who has been transferred on promotion in the P. and T. Department to Blenheim.

Twelve new members were elected, and five resignations were accepted. A recommendation to the incoming executive was passed that players entering the championship events be not allowed to enter for the handicap events. Membership Subscription

The executive submitted the following notices of motion to the meeting: (1) That owing to the increased cost of maintenance, the subscription of active members be raised to £3 10s; (2) That non-bowling members not exceeding 10, be admitted at £1 Is per member. After discussion, Mr H. C. Jeffery moved as an amendment that the active members' subscription be £3 7s 6d.—The amendment was carried by 19 votes to 9. The second part 'of the motion was approved. It was decided to apply for the Saturday between Christmas and New Year for a Fours tournament.
