PUBLISHER MURDERED

ENEMY OF AL CAPONE SECRET EVIDENCE BLED NEW YORK, Aug. 14. The wealthy racing news pubilsher, Mr J. M. Ragen, aged 65, who recently declared that A 1 Capone still controlled Chicago gambling and vice, died today from gunshot wounds inflicted by assassins on June 24, says a Chicago message. Mr Ragen told the State Attorney, Mr W. J. Tuohy, that he had filed away affidavits and evidence involving a syndicate controlled by the “ Capone family ” which would be delivered to the Federal authorities in the event of his death. . Previous attempts on Mr Ragen’s life were made on April 29, when, after a motor car chase, he eluded two gunmen. The successful assault of June 24 came at a traffic stop, when two blasts from shotguns were fired into Mr Ragen’s car from a truck which drew alongside after sliding past the car containing Mr Ragen’s bodyguard. Mr Ragen, who defied the efforts of gang hoodlums to muscle into his business, offered 25,000 dollars reward for information regarding his assailants, but their identity has not been discovered.
