ROAD IMPASSABLE

CROMWELL TO HAWEA EFFECT OF HEAVY RAIN Owing to heavy rain which has fallen in the Hawea district, the road between Cromwell and Hawea became impassable' yesterday, afternoon, but should be cleared this morning provided there is no further rain. The road through the Kawarau Gorge to Queenstown is also affected, but is not closed. Motorists, however, will need to exercise care. An official of the Automobile Association (Otago) stated last night that the warm rain, which was falling late yesterday afternoon, had melted the snow on the tops, and this has resulted in the swollen creeks and watercourses cutting up the roads. The Hawea road was in a bad state, and any motorist intending to use this route was advised first to make inquiries at Aleaxndra. Other roads are reported to be negotiable
