HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL REPORT The three shows staged during the year had been very successful, stated the annual report of the North Otago Horticultural Society, and the standard of exhibits haa been well maintained. There had been some exhibits of outstanding merit, notably in polyanthus, roses, dahlias, and gladioli, and in the decorative work. The high standard of the floral decorations in Oamaru was well demonstrated in the display by the decorators at the Timaru Jubilee Show in February. The society was grateful to Mr G. T. Gillies for placing his showrooms at its disposal for the three shows, and the continued co-operation and goodwill of the schools in maintaining the interest of the children in their floral work was also appreciated. The committee had assisted the Oamaru Woollen Mills in its second autumn show, and complimented the organisers on the high standard of exhibits.

It was with regret that the passing of Mesdames E. C. Beswick and A. W. Woodward and Messrs J. Hambley and A. C. Buckland was recorded.

The committee congratulated the winners of the society’s cups and trophies, the judges, and all who had assisted to make the season a success.
