BOYS’ BRIGADE

DRILL COMPETITIONS The annual drill competitions of the Eoys' Brigade, Otago Battalion, held on Saturday evening attracted entries from 140 officers and boys for the various events. The battalion parade was commanded by Mr H. McKinstry, the adjutant Mr P. H. Pullyn, the chaplain the Rev. K. C. Crump, of the Presbyterian Mission in the New Hebrides, battalion sergeant-major Staff-sergeant C Weedon, colour party Mr W. H. Tubb and Staffsergeants B. M. Duncan and D. M. McDonald, the orderly bugler Private K. Dolphin. The chairman, Mr D. K. Macdonald, in presenting the Duncan Memorial Shield, referred to the great debt the Boys’ Brigade in Dunedin owed to the late Mr Robert Duncan. The shield is for annual competition in platoon drill, and was won bv a platoon of the 7th Dunedin Company (North-East Valley Presbyterian Church), commanded by Mr G. S.. Smith. The Dan Moir Shield, presented to the best turned out company, was won by the 14th Dunedin Company (Wakari Presbyterian Church), commanded by Mr P. H. Pullyn. The judge, Mr D Moir, said he had a very difficult task in arriving at his decision, as the standard attained this year was a very high one. The Sneddon Cup, awarded to the best squad of eight boys commanded by an N.C.0., was won by a squad from the Ist Dunedin Company (Caversham Baptist Church),’commanded by Corporal Cunningham. The judge, Mr P. A Smith, spoke highly of the efforts of the N.C.O.s and in announcing the marks awarded to each made helpful comments on the manner In which each N.C.O. handled his squad. '
