BRAMBLE SONG SUCCESSFUL

FRANCES BEATS FINALIST

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 10. After a shower in the early morning the weather was fine but cold for the second day of the grand national meeting. The rain did not affect the going, which remained firm and fairly fast. There was a good attendance although it was considerably less than on the opening day. The card supplied interesting racing but some of the winners scored in convincing S bramble Song was well placed all the way in the Grand National Hurdles and won well from Boolamskee, who had to be checked and lost ground when Hunting Mac fell at the first hurdle. Prize Ring was one of the pacemakers but beat himself by pulling hard. Dumbo made a good showing, and was prominent half a mile from home but failed to sustain his effort. Test Pilot stayed on well to finish third and Brantome ran a creditable race under his weight.

Page’s Raid won the Beaufort steeples in good style. Findon had a good run on the rails in the Islington Handicap and had the race won soon after entering the straight. Soneri scored one of the easiest wins of the meeting when she had the finish of the August Handicap to herself.
