SONERTS EASY WIN (0.R.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 11. Concrete and Beautiful were first to show in the Aylesbury Handicap from Mestiza and Royal Kobe. They led the way to Le Sonnet, Rahine, and Robingay. The order was the same to the straight and when well in line for the post Royal Robe came on to win from Rahine, who finished well and ran the winner to a neck. Concrete lasted long enough to gain third place by two lengths, and then came Lovemorn and Springwater, with Desert Fox next Sumner Handicap

Deep Harmony and friiox led out in the Sumner Handicap from Lord Elgin, Burnbrae, and Tomahawk. Tifox led round the top from Deep Harmony Lord Elgin, Tomahawk and Gold Lance. Tifox led Lord Elgin and Deep Harmony into the straight from Gold Lance and Burnbrae. Over a furlong from nome Lord Elgin went to the front and came on to win by two lengths from Deep Harmony, who beat Tomahawk by the same margin. Gold Lance was a good fourth, with Bittersweet, Atfnont, Burnbrae, and Monotone following ini the order named. • l

Beaufort Steeples

Stromboli, Roman Son, Night Prince, and Spanish Main piloted the field in the Beaufort Steeples to the stand double, where Appeasement fell. Spanish Main led Stromboli over Cutts’s fence and over the sod wall, where Night Prince fell. Siglow, Roman Son, Stromboli, Spanish Main, and Page’s Raid had made up ground. Siglow, Roman Son, and Bronze Night led to the second last fence, where the lastnamed ran off. Spanish Main and Page’s Raid were handy. Siglow, Roman Son, and Page’s Raid came to the last fence together and on landing Page’s Raid came on to win by six lengths from Siglow, who beat Roman Son by two lengths. Spanish Main finished close up fourth, followed by Rival and Stromboli. Woolston Handicap

Frances drew 19 at the barrier in the Woolston Handicap, but soon reached third place behind Mysterious Melody and Revivre, with Notary, Knight Crusader, and Runaway close up. Mysterious Melody, Notary, Frances and Revivre led into the straight, where Finalist had joined the leaders. In a hard finish Frances beat Finalist by a short head. Notary was a length away, followed by Mysterious Melody, Runaway, Knight Crusader, ' and Blue Orchid. Grand National Hurdles

Bramble Song was made favourite for the Grand National Hurdles and good support also came for Prize Ring, Dumbo, Blue Title, Boolamskee, and Brantome. Hunting Mac went out at the first hurdle and racing to the far turn the leaders were Prize Ring, Brantome, Dumbo, The Monarch Bramble Song and Test Pilot. Prize Ring led over the stand hurdle from Brantome, Dumbo and Bramble Song, with Test Pilot next. Passing the mile post Prize Ring, Dumbo and Bramble Song were showing the way to Brantome, while Boolamskee had made up ground. Nearing the far turn Dumbo joined Prize Ring, who commenced to fade. Bramble Song and Dumbo were fpllowed by Boolamskee half a mile from home with Prize Ring, Betterman, Test Pilot and the Monarch next Bramble Song wpnt on from Dumbo at the home turn and won all out by a length from Boolamskee. Test Piolt stayed on to finish four lengths away just beating Dumbo, and then came Brantome, Prince Dolomite, Blue Title, Sphere, Betterman, Prize Ring and The Monarch strung out behind the placed lot. Sprcydon Hurdles Tamerlane and Olga’s Choice led over the stand hurdle in the Spreydon Hurdles and Gold Claim dropped his rider at the next. Olga’s Choice led along the back with Big Top, Tamer lane, Boloyna and Beneve in close attendance. Boloyna made a mistake and dropped back. Olga’s Choice led over the final flight and then in a stirring finish, Beneve fought on to win by a short head from Tamerlane, with Big Top and Olga’s Choice almost in line with them.

Islington Handicap

When the field in the Islington Handicap reached the back stretch Lord Darnley and Leigh Batron had taken charge and they led from Desert Victory, Broiefield and Findon. Leigh Barton was clear from Lord Darnley. Desert Victory, Broiefield and Findon coming to the home turn. Montosorrie and Swingalong lost their riders after reaching the straight. Leigh Barton led into the straight, but Findon drew up and had the race won over a furlong from home, where Foxchase was making up ground. Findon came away to win by three lengths from Foxchase. who beat Leigh Barton by a length. Platform was close up fourth, with Longsword next, followed by Salary. Lowry Bay and Western Front. August Handicap Soneri was made a strong favourite for the August Handicap. Bridge Acre was cut out on the rails, and Golden Souvenir and Nepeta were slow away Julius Caesar and John o’ London led along from Grand Forest, Tiger Tan, Kiloney, Royal Chance, Dash o’ Dink and Imperial. Julius Caesar led into the straight from Soneri, John o’ London, Tiger Tan and The Grand. Soneri drew away and won well by over two lengths from Lexia, who finished on and beat John o’ London by a neck for second place. Tiger Tan was a head behind John o’ London, and then close up came The Grand, followed by Grand Forest, Bonny Flight and Cramond Bay.
