SCHOOL COMMITTEE Mr L. R. Mclntosh presided over the monthly meeting of the Alexandra District High ■ School ■ Committee, which was held on Wednesday evening. It was reported that the painting of the old school buildings was being undertaken at present, but that provision had not been made for the detached room and it was decided to request the Education Board to have this room painted also. The head teacher, Mr D. R. Blyth, reported that the roll was primary 261, secondary 72. The attendances were now good after poor attendances in July on account of the severe weather and illness that ensued. He also reported that the secondary football and basketball teams would travel to Dunedin on August 19 to play games against Dunedin schools and also to visit places of Interest. Terra Holidays The committee viewed the poor attendances during July with some concern. It was pointed out that some Central Otago schools had the term holidays all in one group at the end of July. It was suggested that the trouble might be overcome by having a full week at Easter and the balance in July when the cold weather set in. It was decided to refer the matter to the board for guidance and to arrange to take a vote of parents towards the end of the year on a proposal that these holidays would be observed for one year as a trial.
