GUIDE TO DUNEDIN

OTAGO MUSEUM.— King street. Hours: Week tdays, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.; Sundays, to to 4 p.m. The Otago Museum has on exhibition a Gurka Kukri (heavy fighting knife) lent to the Museum by the King. The sheath is heavily decorated with silver filigree covered with gold. OBSERVATION TOURS.—Tours around the Otago Peninsula are available by buses which leave the Municipal Chambers In the Octagon at 2 p.m. to-day and 2.15 p.m. to-morrow. On Sunday afternoon a tour to Signal Hall and around Dunedin Is available by buses leaving the Municipal Chambers at 2.15 pan. A drive around the harbour bays to Harrington Point is available by buses leaving the Queen’s Gardens at 2 p.m. to-day and 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.

GOLF COURSE.—The Ocean BeachMunicipal Golf Course of 18 holes, situated near the terminus of the St. Kilda (No. 7) tram-is available for the use of the public on payment of’ a small green fee.

SCENIC WALK.—From the terminus of the St. Clair (No. 3) tram, take the track along the sandhills to St. Kilda or, for a longer walk, continue through the golf links or along the beach to Lawyer’s Head. The terminus of the Anderson’s Bay tram will be reached by following the road to its intersection with Tomahawk road and then proceeding up the hill. Time required: two hours. EARLY SETTLERS’ MUSEUM.—Lower High street. Hours: week-days, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visito-s will find the museum a storehouse of interesting relics of the early days. There are on display relics of the whaling days, including a whale boat. ART GALLERY.—Logan Park. (Buses leave from Jacobs’s Corner at 6 and 3S minutes past the hour.) Hours: weekdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sundays, 2 to 4 p.m. Visitors still have the privilege of viewing “ Sunny Hours,” by E. A. Waterlow, R.A., “ Preparations for Market,” by Stanhope Forbes, and Van der Velden’s great masterpiece, “ Waterfall in Otira Gorge,” and other pictures, the foundation on which the civic collection has been built.

ORGAN RECITAL.—A recital on the Town Hall organ will be given by Dr, V. E. Galway. City Organist, at 8.15 p.m. to-morrow. He will be assisted by Mr W. R. Clarke, pianist. Visitors will be admitted free. BOTANIC GARDENS.—North Dunedin. (Trams 2,4, or 12.) The tea kiosk in the Upper Gardens is open every afternoon except Friday. In the Winter Gardens, cyclamen and Begonia manicata are in bloom, PUBLIC LIBRARY.—Moray place west.

Hours: week-days, 9.30 a.m. to 9.30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Display tables this week feature books on French art, Otago biographies. H. G. Wells, memory, city planning, Manet, Paul Gauguin, first minute book of the Dunedin Town Board, showing original city seal, industrial design, advertising, Peace Conference 1919 and 1946, Bretton Woods’and the World Bank, stamps, Baltic, Latin America, and Admiral Blake.
