WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Broad Bay.—Mrs Perriman presided. The roll call was, “ Donations of money towards food for Britain.” Mrs A. McTaggart, delegate to the Dominion Feaeration ofg Women’s Institutes, gave a comprehensive report. An interesting and instructive talk on her visit to the Temuka potteries was given by Mrs H. McTaggart. The competitions resulted: Bloom—Miss J. Deas 1, Miss M. Deas 2, Mrs Harley 3; biscuits without butter (three varieties)— Miss Hardy 1, Miss J. Deas 2, Miss M Deas 3; apron from one yard of print— Mrs Hardy 1, Miss M. Deas 2, Mrs Munro 3. The hostesses were Misses J. and M. Deas. Lake Waitaki—Mrs Short presided. The roll call was, "A book I can recommend.” A report of the Wellington conference was given by the delegate, Mrs Short. The competitions resulted: Premier bloom —Mrs Collins 1, Mrs West 2, Mrs Dobbs 3; four oven-baked scones—Mrs Dobbs Dunedin W.I. Club.—Mrs Morrison presided. The motto was, "A well-spent day brings a happy to-morrow,” and the roll call, " Magazines for hospita'." The competitions resulted: Bloom—Mrs Kill 1, Mrs Robinson 2; biscuits made with dripping— Mrs W Butler 1, Mrs Latta 2; smocked article—Mrs Mann 1, Mrs Hilliker 2. Mrs Morrison gave a comprehensive report on the conference held in Wellington. Mrs Shorter, of the Eastern Southlano Federation, and several visitors were warmly welcomed. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Tuapeka Mouth.—Mrs Cowan presided. The motto was, " Not what we take up, but what we give up, that enriches us,” and the roll call, “A spring-cleaning hint. Arrangements were made for an institute concert. An interesting report on conference was given by the delegate, Mrs Houliston. The meeting then took the form of a " kitchen afternoon in honour of Miss Eileen Keenan, who received many useful gifts. The competitions resulted: Bloom—Mrs Barnie 1, Mrs Charles Lucas 2, Miss Brand 3; eggicss gingerbread—Mrs Brown 1. Mrs Hayman 2; warm garment for child (for Lady Galway League)—Mrs Barnie 1. Mrs Blah 2, Mrs Bevan 3
Macandrew Bay.—A successful social evening, to which rnany friends were welcomed, was presided over by Mrs Marshall. Items and games were enioyed. and the evening closed with supper.
