WIDE CHARTER GIVEN FATHER DIVINE WEDS NEW YORK, Aug. 7. Father Divine’s newspaper, New Day. announced that he has married a 21-year-old white woman. Miss Edna Rose Ritching, of Montreal, reputed to be both attractive and wealthy. Father Divine is a negro preacher and leader of a mystic peace cult. The marriage licence listed him as Major J. Divine, widower, aged 41. According to New Day, the bride, in a speech at the Central Mission Church, Philadelphia, said: “ I publicly thank you, Father, for this great blessing and honour of legally marrying the Lamb of God. Father Divine, because I know you are God, I declare not to bind you as a woman would a natural man. I free you to love and bless whosoever you desire to bless.” Father Divine replied: "I am well pleased.”
