KIWIS ON ROADS

Several instances of kiwis having been seen on lonely roads at night in the Golden Bay area have been reported. Motorists in a certain area west of Takaka have come across the birds late at night, but no attempt has been made to molest them. The kiwis have been dazzled by the car lights and have stood still in the road until an approach has been made to them, when they have hurried into the bush. It is known that there are kiwis in the Golden Downs area, but it is a long time since their presenec in Golden Bay areas has been reported.
