Traffic Inspector L. E. Simmons has received advice of his transfer from Oamaru to Palmerston North. During his stay in Oamaru fsr the past eight years, Mr Simmons has ’proved an efficient and courteous departmental officer, and, in addition to his official duties, he has taken a prominent part In community affairs, and holds the positions of chairman of the North School Committee and great chief of the Oamaru Savage Club. Mr .Simmons will leave for the North Island next Thursday. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr H. Grocott at the annual meeting of the Oamaru Master Butchers’ Association on Wednesday night, Mr Grocott had been secretary of the association since its inception a few years ago. Reference to Mr Grocott’s death was also made at yesterday’s meeting of the Waitaki High Schools Board, when a motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed. Mr Grocott had been a member of the board for some years.
Motions of sympathy were passed by the Waitaki High Schools Board yesterday with the relatives of the late Mr W. Stringer and Mrs P. A. Jackson. Regret that Mr R W. Hill, a member of the Board of Governors of, the Waitaki High School, was not seekihg re-election to the board was expressed by Mr W. Kinder, chairman of the board, at yesterday’s meeting. Board members extended best wishes to Mr Hill and thanked him for his services to both the boys’ and girls' schools, and expressed the hope that it would not be long before he was back at the board table.
