BANANAS TO ARRIVE

AUSTRALIAN ORANGES VEGETABLE CEILING PRICES A fairly large shipment of bananas is expected early next week. These will be railed to Wellington for shipment by the Kauri.

It will be fully three weeks before the next shipment of Australian oranges comes to hand ex the Waitaki.

Small lots of New Zealand-grown lemons are reaching the marts. Good supplies of apples

Supplies of apples are in excess of the demand, particularly small sizes, and the latter are accumulating in the marts. Much larger quantities of apples are being released by the Internal Marketing Department than was the case at this time last year. The demand at present is confined principally to large sizes.

No pears were released by the Internal Marketing Department this week. A futher allocation will be made next week. Tree tomatoes and passion fruit are realising high prices. Only small quantities are on offer. There is a keen inquiry for poorman oranges. These are practically unobtainable at the moment, as the season has not yet fully commenced. A large shipment of Gisborne-grown pumpkins is expected ex the Kauri. The vegetable market

There will be an increase in the ceiling prices of carrots, parsnips, pumpkins, and onions as from August 1. Cabbages have a steady Inquiry. Cauliflowers are in better supply and the market is a little easier, although prices from the grower’s point of view are still satisfactory. Carrots continue in short supply but parsnips are in over supply, with sales a little on the slow side.
