STOCK FOODS
CONTROL OF SALE PROTECTION OF FARMERS (From our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 26. Provision for the control of the sale of stock foods is contained in the Stock Foods Bill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives to-day. An explanation of the measure was given by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr B. Roberts, whc said it was to protect farmers by ensuring that they knew the food value of any stock food that they purchased The Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee, Mr Roberts said that the farmer was entitled to know just what he was buying in the way of stock foods, and the percentages of .protein and carbohydrates and so forth that they contained A somewhat similar practice was followed with fertilisers, which had the ingredients (..larked on the bag. The Bill had the support of the Farmers' Union, the Federated Farmers, the Poultry Board, and the National Pig Industry Council, and. he was sure, the endorsement of farmers. Merchants generally agreed that a Bill of such a nature was desirable. The Bill provides that the invoices for’ the sale of stock toods shall contain the names of the ingredients. It is an offence to sell stock foods not of the prescribed standard or containing injurious ingredients
