HONOURS LISTS

MAYORS NOT CONSULTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 9. The statement that he knew of no Mayor in New Zealand who had been asked to supply names for the honours lists was made to-day by Mr J. W. Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, and president of the Municipal Association. “In the difficult position in which the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, and the Government have been placed over the recent honours lists I feel that the Prime Minister, possibly inadvertently, has created the impression that the Government has sought advice of Mayors and others in compiling the lists,” Mr Andrews said. He thought this statement was necessary in view of criticism throughout New Zealand, which had lately extended to Lower Hutt.
