COUPON SAVING SCHEME GRATIFYING RESULTS (PA.) WELLINGTON, July 9. Total meat savings were approaching 1,250,0001 b, the National Famine Emergency Committee announced to-night. The committee, it was stated, was gratlfired at the maintenance of the food saving campaign durihg the past week. In spite of various subjects of controversy, the decline for the week was approximately 8 per cent., while the butter figure was the second best in the last five weeks. The total figure had been bettered only twice In the last seven weeks. Gisborne, second last week, had taken the weekly district pennant from Oamaru. There was very little between the districts occupying the first five places. Napier had doubled its savings in three weeks, and the Auckland figures had recovered slightly, but Wellington had slumped.
