OLD BOYS’ WIN

A large number of spectators at Tonga Park witnessed a bright game when Caversham was defeated by High School Old Boys by 4 goals to 1. The score was not in keeping with the run of play, as Caversham during a period of the second spell had charge of the game and had Old Boys’ defence hard pressed. Ryan sent to Smith, who crossed for Groves to score. Caversham was awarded a penalty for hands, but Munro saved, and a strong attack found Smith handy, to score from close range. O’Neil, who was playing a fine game for Caversham, sent out to Williams, and the latter’s drive grazed the cross bar. Duncan narrowly missed scoring direct from a corner. Ryan played Foote into position before passing to allow the latter to score. Scott was prominent later, when he sent out to Williams, who sent in a good cross which McLean headed into the back of the net. Caversham failed to add to the score, and a fast break-away enabled Ryan to score from a pass by Green. Foote had to leave the field with an angle injury. Tire final score was: High School Old Boys 4, Caversham 1. Mr W. Dodd was the referee.
