Jottings Nominations for the South Canterbury Hunt meeting are due to-day. Sanskrit won at Timaru as if extra distance would not stop her. Montezuma again showed pace at Timaru, but was beaten a long way from home.
Alpine cut a pastern of his off foreleg when he got into trouble in the Levels Hurdles.
Deep Harmony won the Kingsdovvn Handicap in good style. She was always prominent, and stayed on well in the run home.
Detain is one of the few of Defaulter's stock who does not run up to the expectations of his supporters. Gallimaufry again came in lor support for his race at Timaru, and gained third place by a narrow margin. v
K. Nuttall had his first ride over fences when he took the mount on Penetration in the Pareora Hack Steeplechase.
Taxpayer was saddled up twice at Timaru, but the second race found him a long way ba'k at the finish. Mysterious Melody was always prominent in the Claremont Hack Handicap. He lost ground by boring out, but still had a safe margin in his favour at the finish.
Appeasement is a rising five-year-old, and comparatively young for a horse racing over country. He may develop into a useful sort. Mysterious Melody bore out in the straight in the Claremont Hack Han-
dicap, and appeared to interfere with Legal Label. The stewards held an inquiry into the matter, but took no further action.
Money Bird ran a good race in the Seadown Handicap, but had no chance of conceding 71b to Sanskrit and 81b to Burberry, who now shapes in improved style. ' The Salmagundi-Lochlaggan gelding Burnbrae was well backed and beaten in the Kingsdown Handicap. He finished a fairly close fourth, and with a better run from the home turn would have finished in the money. The Raker was going well in the early stages of his first race over fences, but he hooked some of the fences, ana this stopped him. Under punishment he finished on to get up and beat Arctic Dawn for third place.
