AMICABLE SETTLEMENT

AUSTRALIAN NURSES’ STRIKE

“DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS” (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 5. The board of the Macleay District Hospital at Kempsey and its nurses have settled their differences amicably, and Sister Pamela Swift, whose dismissal precipitated the recent nurses’ strike, is to be reinstated immediately without any loss of continuity of employment. The settlement was announced after a conference of the parties at which Mr Justice Kinsella, of the State Industrial Commission, presided. He stated that the conditions at the hospital were deplorable, and should be relieved without delay.
