JUST A DUMMY
REHABILITATION COMMITTEE BODY WITH NO POWERS (P.A.)) NELSON, July 5. The Nelson R.S.A. representative on the local Rehabilitation Committee since its inception, Mr U. R. L. West, has tendered his resignation because he considered' that the committee has no powers. His resignation to the association states: “As you know, I have been on the committee since its inception. I find that its powers, small as they were in the beginning, have so dwindled that the committee has no authority whatever. It is, in fact, simply a dummy to make it look as though the Rehabilitation Department is governed by a very representative local authority. I am not prepared to spend every Monday evening sitting on a board whose powers are, exactly nil when I can use the time to far more advantage in helping returned servicemen.” Mr West assured the executive that his efforts to assist in rehabilitation would continue. He had no criticism to make of the local committee or its officers, who were doing excellent work and were not responsible for the existing state of affairs.
