COMPENSATION COURT
SITTINGS CONCLUDED The Compensation Court concluded its Dunedin sittings yesterday. Three cases were dealt with by Mr Justice Ongley, two of the matters before the court involving the taking of medical evidence only. In the case of Jessie Ann Fotheringham v. H.M. the King for compensation arising out of the death of her husband by heart failure following a slip from a plank while the deceased was engaged in cleaning the window of a railway carriage, lengthy medical evidence was giver, by Dr E. F. D’Ath and Dr J. A. D Iverach, after which the case was adjourned to enable further evidence to be heard in Wellington. Mr A. N. I-laggitt, instructed by Messrs Bel], Gully, Mackenzie and Blundell, appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr J. B. Deaker, instructed by Mr A T. Donnelly, Crown Solicitor of Christchurch, appeared for the defendant. Compensation to Cease On the motion of Hemsley Bros.. Ltd., an order was made granting leave to discontinue the payment of compensation to J R. Mooney, an employee, in respect to an accident suffered on September 7, 1945, during his employment, with the company. Mr A. N. Haggitt appeared in support of the motion and Mr T. O’Shea for ‘the employee. Coal Miner’s Claim Evidence by Dr lan Rutherford, eye specialist, was neard in a case in which Frank Allan McLean, coal miner, of Ohai, proceeded against the Star Coal Company, Limited. The case will be before the court at Invercargill to inquire into the degree of injury suffered to the worker’s eye and to determine the resultant loss of earning power, if any. Mr L. F. Moker appeared for the plaintiff and Mr J. P Ward instructed by Messrs Macalister Brothers, cf Invercargill, appeared for the defendant company.
