BROADCASTING HOURS

A FURTHER’REDUCTION

BREAK AT BREAKFAST TIME

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. Mar. 28. Commencing on Monday, April 1, a further reduction of half an hour in the hours of broadcasting will come into operation. All broadcasting stations will then shut down on Mondays to Fridays inclusive from 8.10 a.m. to 8.40 a.m., in addition to the present “silent” hour from 11.30 a.m. to noon and 5.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

This reduction was announced today in a joint statement by the Minister of Works, Mr R. Semple, and the Minister of Broadcasting, Mr F. Jones. The Ministers’ statement continued: “The' benefit to, the electric supply position of the additional period of shutdown of the broadcasting stations will not be fully realised unless all receiving sets are switched off from the electric supply as soon as the stations go off the air.

“ In the North Island alone there are over 250,000 receiving sets in use, and with these disconnected from the supply the relief given to power stations will be substantial.” .
