After receiving the sugar subsidy foi the year 1943-44 of £18,629, Victoria Nyanza Sugar Company, Ltd., of Melbourne, incurred a loss of £10,398 tor the year ended June 30, 1945, against a loss of £15,911 in the previous year. The sum of £14,375 is carried forward, against £24 773 brought in. Trading loss was £29,027 (against £15,301 loss in 1943- 4), while interest brought in £3580 (£3b72) Following two years of record drought, the quantity of cane available for crushing was somewhat less than during the previous season, and its quality was extremelv poor, the result being that production for 1944-45 was the lowest in the last 20 vears.
