ASSETS IN SPAIN

GERMAN HOLDINGS TON OF GOLD CURRENCY (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Mar. 27. German assets in Spain are conservatively valued at £25,000,000, including nearly a ton of gold currency, among which are 125,000 British sovereigns, says the Madrid correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. Assets not covered by the British and American embassies and the United Trusteeship Organisation will go into the allied reparations pool.

A German organisation had an extensive grip on Spanish industrial and commercial life. The Allies have taken over more than 100 large buildings and factories in Madrid and Barcelona formerly financed by Germans. The intricate Nazi network was operated by a master corporation, “ Sofindus.” seven controlling shares in which were traced after a.long search to the possession of the German Embassy.
