NEW BOUNDARIES
COMMISSION OF INQUIRY SOUTH ISLAND TO LOSE TWO SEATS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 27. The statutory Commission which has been sitting in Wellington to revise the European electoral boundaries following the results of last year’s census is expected to complete its work this week. The revision process has been more exacting on the present occasion because the abolition of the country quota must have the effect of radically changing all electoral boundaries. The provisional results are expected to be published this week. They do not become final until the elapse of 28 days in which to receive objections to the proposals, and in view of the great changes likely to be indicated there will be many petitions against the new boundaries. ■ . The details of adult population now made public constituted the basis of the commission’s allocation of representation of the 76 European constituencies. These figures provide clear proof that the South Island must lose two seats, making the representation in the next Parliament, South Island 26 and North Island 50.
