OCTAGON THEATRE

“ Irish Eyes are Smiling,” which has proved extremely popular with Dunedin audiences, will be continued for a season of another week at the Octagon Theatre. The story of the film concerns the life of Ernest R. Ball, the American composer of sentimental ballads. Most of his famous melodies are presented in the film by Metropolitan Opera stars and by Dick Haymes, who has a distinctly pleasant singing voice. June Haver is with Haymes in giving the film its romantic story. Ball’s cilmb to fame is delightfully told, and the technicolor photography makes for many lavish scenes. Monty Woolley gives an outstanding performance in a part which ideally suits his particular type of acting.
