LAWN TENNIS TRIALS In the near future a South Otago lawn tennis team will be chosen to play against an Otago team at Milton, and with a view to deciding the ranking of the various players in South Otago a series of games is to be played at the Balclutha courts to-morrow. The following players have been chosen to take part:—Botting. Hayward. Munro, Murray, Stiven (Balclutha), Glasgow (Kaitangata), Rivers (Lovells Flat), Broad and Stuart (Waiwcra) Thompson, Martin, and Dowdall (Milton); Mesdames Moffat, Ferguson, Shana O'Leary (Balclutha). Miss Broad and Miss Nicol (Waiwcra), Miss Kreft and Mrs Murray (Milton). BOWLING TOURNAMENT Twenty-seven pairs have been entered for the first Pairs tournament to be held in South Otago this season. Organised by the Stirling Club, the tournament will be played on the Stirling and Balclutha greens, and the finals at Stirling. Play will commence at 8.45 a.m. SOUTH OTAGO GUN CLUB Owing to the shortage of ammunition during the war years, the South Otago Gun Club has not functioned on a fuil scale for more than five years, and the first annual general meeting since 1940 was held at Balclutha recently. There was a good attendance, and Mr G. O. Sinclair (president) was in the chan. Reports and balance sheets covering the period 1940-45 were presented and adopted and showed the club to be in a sound position. It was stated that a new shooting ground had had to be sought, and a suitable site on the aerodrome reserve had been made available by the Balclutha Borough Council. A new club room was to be erected. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing vear resulted as follows: — Patrons—Mr J. A. Roy, M.P., Mr James Guest, and Dr D. G. Radcbfle; president, Mr Gerald Sinclair; vice-presidents— Messrs T. C. Morris, J. Stiven, S. F. Aburn, and C. Wilson; General Committee—Messrs F. Down, W. Mason, J. Wilson, D. Campbell, and C. Hasler; referee, Mr J. Stiven; deputy referee, Mr D. Campbell; secretary, Mr T. W. Elliott; auditor, Mr N. J. Fryer; honorary custodian, Mr W. Mason. The incoming committee was asked to investigate the matter of taking out a pubic risk insurance policy. The preparation of a programme for the season was entrusted to the committee, and it was decided that the C.A.C. Cup be won outright this season.
