AMERICAN PLANES
LANDINGS IN AUSTRALIA CLAIMS BEING PRESSED CANBERRA. Feb. 12. The United States is pressing for the granting of the right for American planes to land in Australia. The main pre-war barrier to the exchange of landing rights was the refusal of the United States to allow British planes to land in Hawaii, but it is understood that the United States is prepared to concede this to assist in an early decision. The delay in the conference between Britain, New Zealand and Australia, to be held in New Zealand in March, is holding up the Empire effort. Cabinet has given the Minister for Air, Mr A. S. Drakeford, power to negotiate with the United States on recriprocal landing rights.
