MARINE INQUIRY

LAUNCH WASHED ON TO ROCKS (P.A.) BLENHEIM, Feb. 13. The marine inquiry, into the mishap to the launch Sterling, which was washed on to the rocks in Tory Channel on December 9, resulting in two members of the Blenheim, Deep Sea Fishing Club, Kenneth Fyi'e and Wal,lace Jellyman, losing their lives, was concluded before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., yesterday. The points for the court’s determination were: — First, what was the cause of the casualty? ' Secondly, was the stranding and loss of life caused by or due to any act of negligence by the owners or person in charge of the launch? Thirdly, could the casualty have been avoided, and, if so, what precautions should have been taken? The court’s report will be forwarded to the Marine Department.
