GRAND THEATRE
“ Within These Walls,” starring Thomas Mitchell, Mary Anderson, and Edward Ryan, commenced a season at the Grand Theatre yesterday. One of the most sought-after actors in the motion picture business, Thomas Mitchell plays the part of a prison warden for the first time in his long screen career. In the film Mitchell’s' young son and daughter (Mary Anderson and Edward Ryan) come to live within the walls of a State penitentiary after the expulsion of a corrupt warden. Their arrival at the prison unleashes a flood of hate and violence, for it is Mitchell himself who, as a noted criminal jurist, had sentenced fully a third of the prisoners to long terms. In the resulting complex situations in which Mitchell’s children become involved, film entertainment of a high standard is provided. The associate attraction is “ Col. Effingham’s Raid,” featuring Chares Coburn, Joan Bennett, and William Eythe. the “ boy ” of the “ Song of Bernadette.”
