HEAT WAVE ABATES
TOTAL OF EIGHT DEATHS SYDNEY, Jan. 7. The heat wave in New South Wales has now abated. Two more people died from heat prostration yesterday, bringing the total in three days to eight. A bush fire swept through 60,000 acres of grass and bush land near Quirindi (about 250 miles north of Sydney), causing heavy damage before it was brought under control. No casualties were reported, but live stock and poultry losses were heavy. Miles of fencing and one house were destroyed.
