POISONOUS FUMES

GAS DRIFTS INTO SHOPS INCIDENT IN MANLY (Rec. 8 p.m.) SYDNEY. Jafl. 7. Poisonous sulphur dioxide gas affected 17 persons in Belgrave street, Manly, to-day. The gas was being drawn by pipe from a refrigerating plant in a nearby milk bar when the pungent fumes drifted into shops, flats, and the Manly theatre. People coughed and gasped as they noticed a burning sensation in their throats. Carbogen treatment was used and two women were taken to the Manly Hospital, where they quickly recovered.
