STOCKS LOW IN BRITAIN INDUSTRY HAMPERED LONDON, Jan. 2. The British motor industry’s 1948 target of 617,000 vehicles was disclosed in a Board of Trade report on the progress of industrial reconversion ana the expansion of civil production. Radio manufacturers have been licensed to produce 1,367,000* sets. Utility furniture production has been hampered by lack of plywood and other materials. The hosiery industry faces a yarn shortage, and is handicapped by the slow rate of return of women as opposed to men workers. The report blames the dock strike for the anticipated production of not more than 10 per cent.-in footwear supplies for the first quarter of 1946. Examination of surpluses, it is reported, indicates that stocks- of consumer goods are not likely to be available in any large quantities.
