RANGE OF PRICES
The following quotations per 1001 b lor beef and per lb for mutton and pigs are supplied, with a comparison with last week's prices, by onr special representative at yesterday’s Burnside stock sale:—
of fully 25s a head on the opening rates. Cows and heifers were in short supply, and also met with a good demand. The top price for the day was secured by Hastings Bros., Stirling, for a truck of quality bullocks which realised £23 7s 6d to £2B 7s Gd. Quotations: Extra prime bullocks sold from £26 2s 6d to £2B 7s 6d. prime £22 17s 6d to £25 12s 6d, medium £lB 17s 6d to £2O 12s 6d, and light from £l7 12s 6d, prime heifers £l3 2s 6d to £l4 17s Cd, medium £ll 7s 6d to £l2 7s 6d, and light from £9 12s Gd; extra prime cows to £l4 7s 6d, prime £lO 2s 6d to £l3 12s Gd. medium £8 7s Cd to £9 7s 6d, and light from £7 12s Gd. Fat Sheep.—The yarding numbered approximately 1500. the greater part of the entry ' comprising wethers of various quality. There was a surprisingly good demand for all classes of wethers in the early stages of the sale, and prices improved bv Is to 2s a head on the market of a fortnight ago, but there was a decided easing as the sale progressed and towards the finish sales were somewhat difficult to effect. Quotations: Extra prime wethers 46s to 48s Gd, prime 40s to 42s 6d, medium 34s to 36s 6d, and light from 30s; prime ewes, 22s Gd to 25s Gd; medium 21s to 22s Gd, and light from 17s. Fat Lambs.—The number offered was approximately 200, and included several consignments of good quality. The yarding was somewhat above requirements. and after the disposal of a couple of races prices eased to the extent of 2s to 3s a head on the opening rates. Prime lambs realised from 32s to 355; medium, 27s to 295; and light from 245. Store Cattle.—There was little of note in this section, only two small pens being offered. The sale of vealers was again a good one, best runners realising from £lO to £ll 10s; prime vealers, £5 10s to £6 15s; and medium. £3 15s to £4 10s. Pigs.—The offering was a small one, and quality was only ordinary. Competition was again good for suitable sorts, best baconers making from £7 5s to £3 ss: medium, £G 12s to £6 17s; and light from £5. The inquiry for store pigs was a keen one, best weaners realising from 44s to 475, and medium, 35s to 38s.
