HOLIDAY CAMP

A Y.M.C.A. PROJECT COMMENCED AT WAITATI The annual summer camp for boys, which is held at Waitati each year by the Dunedin Y.M.C.A., was commenced on Saturday, when more than 50 boys travelled to the camp in two buses. The camp, which is situated in ideal surroundings for the purpose, continues until January 26. Altogether more than 120 boys have registered for admission to the camp this year. They will spend from two to five weeks there. Some of the boys have been assisted by the Rotary Club, which has taken an active interest in the project. The camp, which is located near the fish hatcheries at Waitati, offers excellent recreational facilities for young boys, and there is proper supervision. Electric power ensures an adequate supply of hot water and lighting in each hut, and the surrounding countryside offers unbounded opportunities for tramping and other healthy activities. A proper swimming pool has been constructed and this is kept filled by an electric pump. Another pump maintains the domestic supply. The outdoor chapel is one of the most picturesque features of the camp. It is set in a grove in the adjoining bush and services will be held in this natural amphitheatre in which the only foreign intrusion is a reading desk draped with bunting.
