MAGISTRATE’S COURT A short sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at Balclutha on Wednesday, Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M., presiding. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., of Gore (Mr J. A. C. Mackenzie) proceeded against William G. Brown, a fisherman, of Kaka Point, on a judgment summons for £1 6s 9d, the balance owing on an account for goods supplied.—There was no appearance of the defendant, against whom an order was made, in default two days’ imprisonment. For operating a motor cycle without a warrant of fitness, Mervyn Tree, of Pukerau, was convicted and fined 10s with court costs (12s). • Frederick William Sell, a milk vendor, of Balclutha (Mr J. A. C. Mackenzie), was charged with assaulting Wilfred E. Mason at Balclutha on December I.—After evidence had been given by the complainant, the magistrate dismissed the charge as trivial. He added that on his own admission the complainant had “goaded Sell beyond endurance.” ' ; . PERSONAL Mr William H. Warwick has been appointed full-time instructor in metalwork, motor mechanics, woodwork and trades drawing at the South ;Otago High School. This is a new appointment, the Education Department having agreed to assist in providing facilities for a trades course at the South Otago High School. It is expected that the necessary additional buildings and equipment will be ready at the commencement of the next school year. On Tuesday evening, Mr Andrew Hall was made a farewell presentation by the members of the Balclutha Bowling Club. In asking him to accept a monetary gift, the president (Mr R. Mcßride) referred to Mr Hall’s popularity, his interest in young players, and his willingness at all times to assist in the administrative affairs of the club. Supporting remarks were made by Mr L. J. Edwards.
