CARISBROOK A’s STRENGTH

HADLEE IN REMARKABLE FORM The spectators at Carisbrook saw Grange-University dismissed in 86 minutes for 76 runs and W. A. Hadlee score still another century in Carisbrook A’s reply o£ 249 for two wickets. Since Hadlee had taken four catches in Grange-Univer-sity’s innings, he had altogether a highlj. satisfactory day. His score of 147 not out was a continuation of his remarkable batting form since he began playing in Dunedin club cricket at the beginning of this season. In four innings his scores have been 80, 208 (retired), 100, and 14< not. out. . , The wicket was wet, but not unduly so, when C. D. G. Toomey lost the toss once again for Grange-University. The Carisbrook bowlers made a good start, ana Grange-University did not recover. L. c. Baker settled down to steady batting aftei a shaky beginning, and he and C. J. Elmes looked like making a stand when A W. McDougall was tried again. The medium-fast bowler required only three more ovens to finish off the innings. Thost; three overs yielded five wickets for seven runs, six of which were scored by Elmes in one hit. Carisbrook’s out cricket was dried out evenly, and Hadlee and L. M. Uttley quickly showed that there was little wrong with it. Both scored freely, and Uttley was batting well when he was unluckily bowled oh his pads. T. C. Fraser took a little time to settle down, but then played beautifully crisp strokes Hadlee, in the meantime, was scoring steadily, and the two of them added 169 for the second wicket. Fraser's attractive innings ended when he mishit a loose ball. Hadlee gave a chance to mid-off when he was in the 90 s, and another behind, the wicket soon after he ran into three figures. He was not perhaps timing his strokes in front of .he wicket quite as well as usual, but his runs in 136 minutes was another very fine Innings. He hit 14 4 s and one* 6, and was equally severe on all the bowling. Details:— Grange-University First Innings L. C. Baker, c Fraser, b McDougall 34 C. C. Donovan, b Harwood 2 A.
